All You Need to Know

This is the book I've been waiting for. I've slowly (through much trial and error) discovered what works for me through years and years of lifting. And, no surprise, it's pretty much what Mike said in his first book.
And then I started to slowly change my workouts for various reasons. And again, my workouts that I've come up with are really similar to what he's teaching in his new book here.
This new book, Beyond Bigger Leaner Stronger, delves into so much more than just hitting weights and diet. He has some pretty nice information about flexibility and mobility - stretching and foam rolling. There's also a few chapters towards the end that go over some of the fad diet types floating around right now - Intermittent Fasting, Carb Cycling, and Paleo. He's got tips on getting your fat percentage under 10% and maintaining it there for extended periods. And there's also a great chapter on traveling that I may be returning to soon as I get closer to a vacation I've been planning.
I wish that these two books had been around when I first started lifting almost 20 years ago. I would say that I wasted almost 15 of those years following the BS programs in magazines promoted by supplement companies and 'juicers.' Adding muscle and getting lean isn't as difficult or complicated as they would have you believe.
Now when somebody asks me for advice, I point them first to Bigger Leaner Stronger and then to Beyond Bigger Leaner Stronger. I know that they really don't need much else besides those two books to keep the gains coming for years. Whether you want to get a six pack or add a ton of weight to your squat or bench, these are the books you should be picking up.
I was compelled to write this review because I want people to buy these books - not because I care that Mike Matthews sells a lot of books (though he seems like a really great guy), but because I feel that these books will help people get into the shape that they've always wanted to be in and get much healthier while doing it.

I've gotten so good at going to the gym because of this book and its training

Science and perfect reasoning. Just the way I like it. I have started yet I'm still on BLS and I have another year before I met my goals but I have lost over 75 pounds on this programs. Its made me stronger and leaner and big in the right places. I only have forty-five more pounds to go before I get to the size I want to be at. I'm very excited.

BSL Program Really Works (even for a 57 year old out of shape guy)

I never write reviews and this is my first. I am compelled to write in the hope that it helps another aging man who thinks it is too late to reverse his health decline from age, poor dietary habits, and lack of exercise. I am 57 years of age, and started the BLS program 6 months ago. All I can say is that It really works. I was your typical late 50s guy, overweight and generally out of shape. I followed the program prescribed by Michael in his book closely, eating the right way every day, lifting the compound exercises as directed to increase strength, for an hour 5 times a week, supplemented by 30 minute of high intensity cardio 3 times a week, biking or rowing machines, and I dropped 13 kilograms over the 6 month period, at a normal and healthy pace, experiencing dramatic body fat percentage reduction from 30 percent to where it is today, at 10.5 percent, with impressive increases in strength. I have increased my strength over this time period by over 200% and grew 7 kilograms of muscle. I plan to stay on program (hopefully for a lifetime.) I am aiming to hit my targets (of benching 1.4 times my weight and squatting 1.6 times my weight in 6 more months.( I know it will happen. I have tried diets, other programs, worked out on cardio plans, took private yoga lessons, you name it, but this is the first time in my life I have a program that works so well. The difference is that it is not diet, nor is it a work out regime only, but a new way to live you life. There are other excellent books out there, which also are very good as they too emphasize a change in life style and weightlifting (e.g., Life Plan and Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle). But BSL emphasizes lifting for increased strength more than these other programs. I think that approach of lifting for strength is what makes this program so effective. With the increased muscle you gain, by doing compound lifts, you literally reverse the effects on aging. With a stronger and now younger body, I am also much happier mentally and emotionally. Great for your family life too, as my two sons no longer see their Dad as the old aging dude but someone they can play sports and engage in active sports with. So, for all you over 55 guys out there, I highly recommend you get the book and do the program. I 100% guarantee you in 6 months from now, you will be writing a similar review. Eric
