This book deserves 10 stars!

This book was eye opening, I found peace with something I have struggled with for the past 5 years. I found myself being more honest with myself and God than I ever had before. I questioned every step and did not have faith in the plan. In 3 questions, my answer was there, black and white, the WORD, I have read these passages before, but never did I really SEE the answer... That is not till now. This book forces you to be honest, forces you to come face to face with God. I thought I was listening before, but now, I HEAR you Lord! I urge anyone reading these reviews to GET THIS BOOK, use it, it's designed to start being a difference maker in yourself first, and prepares you for becoming a difference maker to others. Powerful read! Thank you Lord, for the vessel you have created in Tony Bridwell! AMAZING!!!

This Book is a Difference Maker!

Powerful, insightful and instructional! I had an opportunity to read excerpts from the book before it was published and spoke with the Author as he was in the final stages of putting it together and cannot wait to get my copy. This has changed the way I look at serving others and helping others. Mark Byrd - gives me a lot to think about

I've had the good fortune to have gotten to know Tony through God putting us in each others path during a short stint where both of our families moved to Pennsylvania. Tony has a passion for God and a passion for people, and he has used the talents God has given him in his Sunday school and his work to encourage and mentor others.

I just finished reading his new book - couldn't put it down. It is very well written, easy to read through a fable-style story, and lays out a biblical process to mentoring and accountability. Whether we know it or not, we are impacting the lives of family, friends and even casual acquaintances - sometimes positively, sometimes maybe not. This gets me thinking more consciously about what impact God wants me to have on others, and how I need mentors who can help me with my own accountability.

Definitely worth the read!

Somewhat Helpful

This is a pretty basic book, although slightly outdated now. It shows you step by step how to complete some of the designs, but it seems that you are on your own for others if I remember correctly. There were times where I had to figure out my own way to complete something, but maybe that's just part of learning graphic design. I'd label it as "somewhat helpful".

Everything it claims to be

This book is a fantastic introduction to graphic design as well as the Adobe Creative Suite. Each chapter begins with a brief history and/or description of an element or principle of design, then segues into a manageably sized and interesting project that illustrates the point. Each project also teaches the basic (and some not-so-basic) tools of one of the Creative Suite applications. Several chapters/projects are devoted to each application. This is my required textbook for a college level course title "Digital Imaging, Design and Illustration." The book is actually available online for free, but it is not expensive to buy, and I prefer reading from an actual text.

Great advice about design, terrible design for a book.

This book has some great material about use of typography in design, with great examples and anecdotes from advertising campaigns dating back to the early days of design. The problem is the execution of the book. The sections designed for reading are overshadowed by confusing side bars and cut-lines for the examples. This book, with great information, is really hard to read beacuse of these flaws in layout.

Badly designed book about design

I was looking for inspiring designs and perhaps some tips about improving my own work. I didn't find it here. This book has a few good examples of ads, but they are the size of postage stamps around the outside of the pages. The text of the book itself is so small, you will not be able to read it without your glasses. The unspoken theme of the book is on creating off-the-wall, innovative ads that win awards, rather than creating something that will catch your customer's eye. If you want to win a Clio, this may be your book. If you want to design ads that might sell your product, look elsewhere.

With your Ayer number one, text wrap the intitial caps and hang the punctuation

If you understood my headline maybe you don't need this book as you've probably reached a level of deep typographic and design awareness but if your not quite sure then this fascinating title is well worth buying.

Every year there are several new books on design published and I tend to group them in two categories: over-designed with images afloat in a sea of white page space and (most annoyingly) small text type and even smaller captions so you can only read the book in sunlight. The other category includes books with good, solid, editorial perspectives that get to grips with the subject matter and present design concepts: practical and theoretical, with clarity in a well designed format. I think Alex White's book definitely falls into this latter group.

With 1500 plus illustrations the book is the opposite of those titles that seem to think that just a few large images will do. Nearly every spread has fourteen lines of text, either side of the gutter with the illustrations making a border round them. This main text sets out ad design concepts and the images show practical examples. Fortunately all the illustrative material is captioned. I did notice though, that on a few pages, with so many ad reproductions, some are too small to take in the point being made about the headline or design.

The three ad sections: Strategies; Design; Typography. They all basically cover print advertising and there is a short overview of billboards, TV, radio and web design. The section that really interested me was Typography. In sixty-five pages White packs in a remarkable amount of type knowledge, so much, in fact, that on first reading you'll probably miss a lot. For instance, on page 169, there is an ad by the great designer Herb Lubalin and next to it the same ad with a couple of vertical red lines added to show how Lubalin optically lined up the stacked headline. Page 198 has block of display text and on 199 the same text is vastly improved by using nine examples of typographic finesse. This sort of content is very typical of the practical ideas and suggestions throughout the book.

The title was designed by the author and well printed (with 175 screen) on gloss paper. One of the best overall references out there!

This book is absolutely great for the beginning collector of Roman coins, as well as the advanced collector who wants a good overview in a book that isn't troublesome to carry around. There is really no best way to organize a reference book on ancient coins, each has its up sides and down sides. This book crams an enormous amount of information into a small space, but it is a little harder to use than the new edition of Sear. However, the new Sear editions are in 4 different volumes already, each of which are larger than this book, and he hasn't finished yet. There are a lot of pictures, so it is enjoyable just to browse through even if you aren't looking for anything. Ras also gives a short history of each emperor, and includes good information about the rarity of the coins in general. His estimates of the prices are as close as you can realistically expect considering the nature of the market.

Conclusion: This is the best general reference you can get. It is cheap, and it is small. The apparent shortcomings of the book are not really a problem. If he would have fixed them the book would be a multi-volume set of big, heavy books that would be priced well out of the range of the beginner. I would without hesitation recommend this book to anyone who wants a one volume overview of Roman coins that is very complete.

ERIC II Reader's Digest version...AORTA

Aorta is an excellent reference book for ancient roman coins. I purchased ERIC II first which is very well written and an excellent reference book for collectors of ancient Roman and Byzantine coins. It has all the bells and whistles. Aorta is the Reader's Digest version. Aorta does not cover the Byzantine era and is black and white but the cost and weight (lack there of) makes it a very affordable alternative to ERIC II. You will probably do like me and buy both!

Great value for the beginning collector

I've started collecting Roman imperial coins in the past but was quickly put-off by the lack of affordable literature. AORTA (what does this mean, anyway?) is a condensed version of ERIC (Ency. Roman Imp. Coins) by the same author, and for a relatively low price it really does allow you to put a proper identification and even likely period of issue on almost any Roman imperial you have. It does not include provincial issues, but that is to be expected. The size is convenient (the binding has held up well so far) and the photos are sharp enough to see good detail of both sides, while the listing of inscriptions seems more than complete enough for the beginning collector like me. You probably shouldn't try to use AORTA for pricing a coin, because there are only general statements about rarity of the given issuer, not individual combinations of fronts and backs for each denomination, but running through EBay and on-line dealer listings will give you a feel for price at the moment. On the downside, AORTA is definitely abridged in some respects from ERIC, and this shows in the lack of color, including references to green or other color bars and such in the introduction. Some types are not illustrated though succinctly described, which may make full attribution difficult, but so far this has not been a problem for me with my meager collection. A cross reference to RIC (Roman Imperial Coins) might help since many dealers use those page and illustration numbers, but the only available version of RIC now to my knowledge is a CD (quite affordable, by the way, but somewhat difficult to use) and the printed volumes are bulky and exceedingly expensive. At my level of beginning collector AORTA gives me pretty much everything I need to feel confident I've correctly attributed a coin--advanced collectors may feel a bit different, however, and would want more detailed literature. Highly recommended for the beginner and intermediate collector--and also the Roman historian.

sturdy pages and a flexible

I started homeschooling my daughter last fall, and I am always on the lookout for new learning materials to supplement her education. I have previously reviewed DVDs from Rock 'N Learn, so, when the company recently approached me about reviewing a new Early Childhood Collection of DVDs and board books, I eagerly accepted the opportunity. I received the exclusive web-pack that consists of one (1) Alphabet DVD, one (1) Alphabet Al's ABC Board Book, one (1) Colors, Shapes & Counting DVD, and one (1) Colors, Shapes & Counting Board Book. Alphabet Al leads youngsters on an adventure to explore letters and boost vocabulary. Rollie Roundman and friends teach preschoolers about colors, shapes, and counting up to 20.

My children own quite the little library of board books, some highly quality than others. Alphabet Al's ABC Board Book and Colors, Shapes & Counting Board Book both feature thick, sturdy pages and a flexible, durable binding. I am confident that both books will withstand many readings from both my daughter and my son. I rate the Early Childhood Collection books extremely highly in terms of physical quality.

As a linguist, I am a huge fan of rhyming text because rhyme helps children with early language development. I was pleased to learn that both Alphabet Al's ABC Board Book and Colors, Shapes & Counting Board Book feature rhymed text. At thirty pages long each, both books are fairly long reads for a preschool audience. However, my daughter generally sits still long enough to hear each read aloud. My son also enjoys listening to me read the board books to his big sister. The rhymed text definitely helps keep the youngest preschooler engaged.

In terms of content, both board books are perfect supplements to my homeschool preschool curriculum. My daughter and I started with colors and shapes last fall. This spring she and I have started working on letters and will end the year with numbers. The information in the books complements the daily lessons that I share with my daughter and helps reinforce her learning. I rate the Rock 'N Learn Early Childhood Collection board books extremely highly in terms of textual quality.

My daughter loves looking at brightly illustrated books. In additional to the engaging text, the colorful pictures in Alphabet Al's ABC Board Book and Colors, Shapes & Counting Board Book help engage her attention. I particularly like the simple pictures that accompany each letter in the alphabet book. My daughter is really working on mastering her ABCs at the moment, so the familiar pictures definitely help her with her letter recognition. My infant son also seems to enjoy looking at all the bright colors in the two Rock 'N Learn Early Childhood Collection board books. I rate both books extremely highly in terms of the illustrations.

Both my daughter and I are extremely pleased with the Rock 'N Learn Early Childhood Collection. The board books feature rhymed text and bright illustrations that effectively hold the attention of the youngest readers. The DVDs are equally engaging. The entire collection complements a typical preschool curriculum. If you are searching for educational material on letters, numbers, colors, and shapes, I highly recommend the Early Childhood Collection of board books and DVDs from Rock 'N Learn.

Great Book for Teaching Alphabet

This Alphabet ABC book is one of my favorites. For starters, this is a board book. That makes is great for both young kids and special ed kids.

As for the actual book, this is something I have been looking for. This book starts off with a complete copy of both the upper and lowercase alphabet. I love how it is separate so the kids can actually see they difference. My favorite part is how simple yet educational it is.

Each side features on individual letter on a simple colored background. On the upper right corner, is both the uppercase and lowercase letters in a different colored box so they stand out. On each page, is a few images along with their spellings. On the bottom of the page is a small poem to help the kids with their letters.

Here is why I love this book:
First of all, all of the images are on a solid background.I have found with the busier books, the kids get confused and focus on the background rather then the actual skill. Since the goal is to teach letters, the simplicity worked out.

I also like how each page features a few images. We love playing look and find with the kids. Since they can see the letters, they can really find what they are looking for and have success.

The last part is the poem all the way on the bottom. As it is out of the way, based on the individual child, I can choose to read it or not. In the poem, they also focus on the words on the page making it more interactive.

Overall a great book. Not to busy or overwhelming for the children. Helps focus on the actual letter recognition skill.

My Son loves learning ABCs and Colors and Shapes with these colorful board books

I’m happy to find books with my son’s favorite characters Alphabet Al and Trollie Triangle from the Rock ‘N Learn videos. I don’t like for him to watch TV right before nap or bedtime, so the books are perfect. He loves looking at the pictures, flipping through the pages just before falling asleep. Not your typical board books, these are packed full of content. The pages are made of a heavy material and can hold up against my son's wear and tear. If we are running short on time, I let him pick just a few pages or activities. The Colors, Shapes & Counting book is really good for skipping around. Sometimes my son likes to “pretend read” the words on the first few pages. Other times he skips this for the games. “What color is it?” is one of his favorite activity pages, and I love how it gives him practice with “small, medium, and large” as well as colors and shapes. The back of the book includes advanced colors and shapes and counting to 20. As for Alphabet Al’s ABC Book, my son likes for me to read the rhyme for each letter or let him point and name the pictures and letters. These books help him learn new vocabulary and lots more. They’re so colorful and fun! These are now some of my son's favorite books.
